Although our Minister of Finance, Wouter Bos, has given guarantees in order to support the financial transactions between banks and enterprises, the economic uncertainty has not been removed yet. The issue however is: are we merely in the grips of economic malaise, or are there also opportunities? Needless to say that such opportunities have to be approached in a sensible manner, but the trick is to spot them. Our environment demands that we behave in a responsible way, as it is changing. Recently a precipitation of over 105 mm water within 24 hours was recorded in North Holland. That is more than 10% of the total amount of normal precipitation for one year. This puts an enormous strain on streets and sewers, with the attendant risk of flooded houses. In order to limit personal and financial distress, streets will have to be swept more, while sewers will have to be cleaned, inspected and repaired more frequently. The opportunities for us lie in the growing demand for such equipment. The introduction of WION (Earth Movers Regulation), aimed at limiting damage to underground cables and pipes, also provides ample opportunity. Our equipment can be used to chart cables, while the KOKS PowerVac will prove of use during excavating. A durable and thoughtful approach to work and business is of fundamental importance in these turbulent times, but we do have to keep looking ahead! Gerard Koks sr. |
